Congratulations to Fit Minded and HempRev for being accepted into the Halo Institute.  They will move in this January and we look forward to seeing how these businesses progress!

Fit Minded came out of UNO and was formerly known as Women Bound to Be Active. It is a book club for women that helps promote physical activity and wellness.   It is an innovative and dynamic program that empowers women to take charge of their health by making themselves a priority, learning about themselves and cultivating their self-worth.  Learn more here.

HempRev has received some coverage in Silicon Prairie News recently for participation in East-2-West New Venture Competition sponsored by InvestNebraska Corporation.  Company founders believe that their propriety hemp decorticator will revolutionize the hemp textile industry in much the same way the cotton gin revolutionized the cotton industry.  Learn more here.

Meet Fit Minded

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 @ 07:12 PM

Fit Minded is a women’s book club that promotes physical activity and wellness by empowering women to take charge of their health through the cultivation of self-worth. Fit Minded is based on the theory that we first have to change our minds about physical activity before we can change our bodies. The program was started by Physical Activity and Health Promotion professor Dr. Jennifer Huberty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Members of Fit Minded read inspiring and informative books and then discuss them in person or online with their peers. Dr. Huberty and her team facilitate Fit Minded book club meetings twice monthly onsite in Omaha. Omaha residents can participate in the actual book club meetings face to face. Women who live in other areas or would rather not participate in person can be a member of Fit Minded online! In Omaha, book club meetings are audio—and videotaped. Depending on the Membership Level, members may independently follow along with the activity program and listen to audio recordings of the club meetings, or may participate live via video. In between meetings, members read a portion of a book and do some thinking and writing about what they’ve read. Members receive a Fit Minded workbook that contains reflective activities such as goal setting and barrier busting. Members are also give a pedometer to track the number of steps they take. A blog, chatroom and live online support are available as well. The program is eight-months long.
